Europe Media Monitor (EMM) Categories are based on a match of news item text against a predefined set of around 850 category definitions, described by 30.000 keyword patterns and combinations. The news items are gathered from around 2500 sources all over the world on a regular basis. EMM updates the article list for a category immediately when a new item has been found. The system currently processes around 100.000 new news articles per day. The selection and placement of stories are determined automatically by a computer program.
