Breast cancer patients in the UZ Brussel will soon be treated with TomoDirect, a new treatment combining radiotherapy with an extremely precise imaging and dosimetry to prevent damage to healthy tissue. Physicist Truus Reynders of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel studied the clinical implementation of the TomoTherapy system and concluded that, in a number of cases, the new technology enables a better and more precise radiation dosimetry than traditional radiotherapy.
